My favorite poet is Lang Leav. Before, I was just writing stories and such but she boost my confidence to try writing poems. I write literaries and even for our school publication. I love putting my feelings into words.

You're right. In my opinion, poetry is the most noble form of writing.

I love to express myself poetically, especially about social issues that impact me. Dire Desires is a direct response to the recent enslavement of migrants traveling through Libya in search of freedom. Desperate to exile their horrid conditions, they begin their quest; full of desire, determination, and dreams. As they toil through the soil, exasperating all energy, they are disturbed by disturbed individuals. Their dreams now crashed and bodies are lashed, and they are sold into slavery. Freedom is further delayed, due to this slave trade. It is evident that these migrants gravely need our aid.

Dire Desires

Migrants, searching for a new life
Desperately traveling through borders
Hoarders, carrying all their hopes, dreams, and things
On their backs
Sweating, crying, exhausted
Desperately searching for a running faucet
Of water, love, riches, and freedom
Crying out for help but do we see them?

Equipped, they have strength and faith as their armor
To defeat this treacherous battle
Stripped, suddenly they are captured
Their strength and faith are ultimately fractured
Whipped, now they are being abused
Not only by life but by tyrants too
Ripped, their human rights are ripped from their right hands
As they are sold into enslavement and pushed on the pavement

Raped by life and also by disturbed individuals
Robbed of their belongings and of their dignity
It’s invisible
Guns drilled into their temples
They are forced into complying
Suicide, exhaustion, abuse, malnutrition
They are forced into dying

Auctioning off souls
To use them then dispose
A small fee captivated a human life
My eyes closed
Cannot witness this tradition
That keeps cycling without permission
We need governments, people, and bravery
To stand up and commission

Let’s place them on our backs
Break every chain
Unleash them from the pits
Emancipation never occurred
Slavery still exists

" god must have kneaded you and i
from the same dough
rolled us out as one on the baking sheet
must have suddenly realized
how unfair it was
to put that much magic into one person
and sadly split that dough in two
how else it that
when i look in the mirror
i am looking at you
when you breathe
my own lungs fill with air
that we just met but we
have known eachother our whole lives
if we are not made as one to begin with
- our souls are our mirrors "
This is my favorite poem by rupi kaur featured in the book the sun and her flowers.

So many favorite poems. Two at the top of the list are Self-Portrait by David Whyte. I love how there is a reveal in most of his poems. This poem poignantly explores the "consequence of love."
Also, a little poem by Hafiz, translated by Daniel Ladinsky. The Place Where You Are Now begins:
"This place where you are right now
God circled on a map for you...."

Almost forgot my new favorite poet, Nayyirah Waheed. “If the ocean can calm itself, so can you. we are both salt water mixed with air" - Nayyirah Waheed. Love this contemporary, reclusive new poet.

This is my first use of this site. Not sure what I'm doing. Not much detailed info on how to do this. I think I'm responding to "Favourite Poem/Poet? Do you write?"

I don't have a favourite poet but do like a variety of styles.

I am a poet & song writer but would like to improve my skills. I have published my first small book of poems just last year. Very exciting but also expensive.

Any positive response would be appreciated.

Hi. I am new to the site too. It takes a little while to figure everything out. There is a lot to explore. I write poetry as well and have learned about a couple of talented poets through this site. Enjoy.

I really like Clementine von Radicks. I think she's got some really insightful and interesting poetry. Alex Dang, who is also published through Clementine's etsy publishing company, is really good as well. Admittedly, I don't often read a lot of poetry since I prefer fiction novels, but I've definitely stumbled across a few really great writers.

I write poetry more than I read it, though I can't claim to be very good at it.

I don't have a favorite poem since that tends to change depending on my mood and emotional state, but I do write poetry myself. I find it freeing to write the things that rattle around in my head.
