Poetry and ebooks

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

Poetry and ebooks

Post by MoisBenarroch »

One of the big problems I find with ebooks is the poetry books.
Poems have a way to place themselves in the page and the visual part as well as the fonts on the book is important.
When you read an ebook of poetry you may have big fonts that change the way each verse is placed in the poem.
Be aware of it.

What do you think?

I agree. Sometimes the text sets itself out OK and sometimes it doesn't. Occasionally it improves if you change the mode top landscape and use a smaller font size, but just as often it doesn't. The two great technical drawbacks with Kindles are this (poetry) and maps. The presentation of maps has improved but is still unsatisfactory.

I totally understand what you mean. With poems a lot of their charm is in their presentation. It really is a shame to lose that

I agree, the formatting in ebooks can distort the poem and ruin it a little. I also find that poetry needs to be read in the book to be fully appreciated

I do agree too. Formatting is a lot more important in poems usually, especially lines and poems that make a picture/shape. I wish it were possible to standardize documents and ereaders, but its kind of hard with all the different formats like EPUB/MOBI/PDF/etc

I agree with you. There are problems while reading poetry on ebooks. Especially their font size variations.
