Well I have this guy I'm talking to and he recommends THE MOST AMAZING SONGS so when I started to hear all those recommendations I just kinda started hitting him up from time to time asking what good music to listen to.

Usually through YouTube, Wikipedia, and Pandora. For Wikipedia, I type in something like "list of alternative rock bands" and often find dozens of bands to check out. There are also some sites that have lists that I've found through a Google search.

I like to search for new music on YouTube and Soundcloud. Sometimes magazines like Mojo or Classic Rock list new bands or new albums from established bands. What I also like to do is google a music genre, like surf, soundtrack or rockabilly, then look at the suggestions Google comes up with. I've discovered quite a range of music in these searches.

I often use Youtube, especially the playlists. It always turns out that I find some new amazing musician when I'm not searching for one, it just happens somehow. As I don't like mainstream music, I don't look at the charts, but rather find a long playlist with all kinds of genres mixed in. There's always something interesting to find.

I usually find new music in the most random way, while not even looking for it. Very often, I fall in love with a new song and/or singer while watching a soap opera, a movie, a primetime show or even a music video made by a fan of said show and/or an avid fan of a certain romantic pairing on the show.

By example, the very first time I heard those songs :
"The end of the world" by Brenda Lee
"Against the wind" by Bob Seger
"Have you ever seen the rain ?" by Rod Stewart
"These are the days" by Van Morison
"Meet me halfway" by Kenny Loggins
"Viveme" by Laura Pausini
"I wanna take forever tonight" by Peter Cetera
"I wanna grow old with you" by Westlife
"I never lived before your love" by Kelly Clarkson
"Everything I do, I do it for you" by Bryan Adams
"Pour t'aimer, j'ai menti" by Toni Massarelli, just to name a few that are among my favorite songs, I wasn't even familiar with those performers to begin with. I just happened to hear those songs in my favorite tv shows like soap opera "Another World", "Cold Case", music videos about Jane & Lisbon from "The Mentalist" and other shows or movies like "Nine months" with Hugh Grant. And then I was hooked to those songs and singers. :D

I've been listening to recomendations of friends...or latetly, I've been looking up to soundtraks of movies that I've liked or that people have recommended to me, and I've found pretty good music, that otherwise I wouldn't have listened.

I listen to radio, watch music channels on cable, and sometimes just type new music into Google. Music channels don't play songs that do not have videos and you'll have to get the song on Google first before you can decide if you like it, so radio is always my best bet.

I usually go to top 10, top 30 or top 100 on various radio stations every week to see if there any new albums.

I browse around on either YouTube or Spotify. I'll usually listen to a lot of new songs one after the next.
