Grenade: Bruno Mars Cover by Within Temptation, I lean towards Within Temptation because they do a more rock version of the song

I loved the "Emotions" cover by Destiny's Child. It was so much more depressing than the original by the BeeGees. I watched the video when I was little so that probably made the difference for me. Plus, I really loved those girls, ha.

Perfect example of a cover song being better than the original.

OK ... here I go again with my never ending crusade to promote Pentatonix: a group of totally "unknowns" which was put together at the last minute right out of high school to compete in a televised acapella sing-off which they had no hope of winning .... but they did.

Watch as much of the following video of the ORIGINAL song by Justin Bieber as you can before you barff, then listen to the second one by Pentatonix. Straight up acapella. No special effects, no instruments.

Pentatonix (cover)

Before the truth all heads must bow; Bieber DOES have a beautiful voice, but in my opinion the first performance doesn't exist in the same universe with the second. PTX is using only their own God-given voices - nothing else.

This next example features a much better performed original song, Cheerleader, but I still think Pentatonix did a better job with the cover. Compare for yourself. Remember, Pentatonix is using only their voices - no autotune, no instruments.

"Broken Arrow" by Robbie Robertson, covered by Rod Stewart. I first heard Stewart's version and liked it, but then I heard the original and totally fell in love with the song!

I also really like The Fugees version of "Killing Me Softly," but I don't know the name of the artist that sang it originally.

Whole Lot Of Shakin Going On covered by Jerry Lee Lewis, the original was done by Roy Hall around in the early 50's. Hall did a slower kind of blues version of it.

muggle wrote:List some great cover songs including you preference of which you like best.

I will start with :

"I Will Always Love You".

Cover by Whitney Houston

Original by Dolly Parton.......I like both versions but favor Dolly Parton's original
Whenever I hear that song sung by Whitney Houston, I feel as though I am listening to a vocal gymnast. There is something plastic in the performance. Dolly Parton does the song justice. There seems to be more humanity in the way she performs.

The band Boyce Avenue always has amazing covers on their YouTube channel! So does the band Cimorelli which is made up of a group of sisters. But my all time favorite band that does covers is called Timeflies.

I know this might sound strange, but Captain's Sensible's Happy Talk is a great cover version as is The Pogues version of Dirty Old Town
Spirit in the sky by Doctor And The Medics is far superior to the original. Rolling Stones is slightly better than Howlin' Wolfs Little Red Rooster

Best cover I've heard

"Girl Crush" cover by Harry Styles. Original by Little Big Town.

"Wild Thoughts" cover by Harry Styles. Original by Rihanna.

"Drag me Down" cover by Shawn Mendes. Original by One Direction.
