Does Music affect what you are Reading

This is the place for readers of poetry. Discuss poetry and literary art. You can also discuss music here, including lyrics. Also, you can discuss poets themselves, in addition to poetry.

If I listen to music when reading (which I try to avoid, but will do to block people out) then I will often skip songs to listen to ones I feel fit the book.

For me, it doesn't particularly affect the book in any way. I could be reading some dark mystery stuff with jazz in the background, read some romance with hip-hop playing. Music is like the sidekick that keeps you in check and makes reading a little bit more enjoyable because they're a proven commodity.

I enjoy listening to music while reading. Depending on the book, sometimes I listen to regular when reading but sometimes I listen to instrumentals. It all depends really.

I think this is definitely really true, at least for me personally. If I'm listening to sad music while reading a sad book, it makes the book itself much sadder.

I think it depends on the music I am listening too. Most of the time I can drown it out. If I do listen to music to read it is to help keep me awake if I am in a good book and so I can't hear barking dogs,

I haven't had music affect my reading, but I definitely find what I read affects my choice of music. I often pick songs that fit parts of the story, and create a playlist. Then I listen to it when I'm not reading, and I reflect on the book.
I'm currently reading the 'Outlander' series, and listening to a lot of traditional Scottish bagpipe music.... yep. I get very "into" it.

I think music tends to affect comprehension, particularly when it has lyrics. You brains wants to follow two different sources of language at once. I don't think it changes the mood at all though.

It all depends on your personality. Some people find listening to music supportive to their reading process, while for the others the effect of music can be the opposite.

I am not exactly sure as I think it also reflects on a persons mood because generally I listen to music depending on what kind of mood i'm in. Except when I am reading I try to listen to something more mellow so I can concentrate on what I am reading.

It definitely affects me. Many times, I will hear a song and associate it with a certain book I read, even if the words to the song had nothing to do with the story. There are songs I hear and still associate them with books I read as a child because I was listening to the song way back then while reading.

the tempo more often than not dictates the speed at which at read. I have heard many other people act the same way when listening to music.

It depends to what kind of genre (music) you are listening and what kinds of books you're reading.

I never listen to music when i read as i prefer that its quiet when i read. So no music does not affect what i am reading.
A mistake is simply another way of doing things
