We had to memorize Annabel Lee in 7th grade and I remember thinking how morbid it was. To this day it is stuck in my head at times! I actually have recited it to my son in place of a nursery rhyme or song in the wee hours of the morning and my husband thinks I am a creep! ha!

I've always loved this poem, it's absolutely lovely. So beautiful and sad. I haven't read it in a long time, thanks for posting it!

I fell in love with this poem a long time ago, and it has always been one of the most romantic pieces in my eyes. Though tragic, it is still so unbelievably beautiful.

Annabel Lee is one of my favourite poems. I recently had to analyze it for my English class and immediately fell in love. I love how the words blend into each other so effortlessly. Poe was truly an amazing poet. :)

Edgar Allan Poe is my favorite poet. Annabel Lee is the first poem I memorized. There is something about his words in this poem that calls to my heart.

I remember being really affected by that poem as a kid when I first heard it. I don't think I realized at first that Annabel Lee died, and that really upset me. Since then, I've loved it, even though Poe was a questionable person.

One of my favorite poem. Way back in my first semester in 2nd year college we performed this as a play. If you're into poetry you can really understand the emotions and heartaches behind this poem. It is amazing!!!

I read this for the first time in seventh grade. Honestly, it creeped me out. But now that I’m older and I’m so into reading, and writing poems especially, it’s one my favorites. He was so talented and his work amazes me! :)

That was the first Edgar Allen Poe poem I have read since school, and I only remember something about a beating heart from that one. This one is creepy. Simple and calm but creepy. What a mix of emotions in that poem.

I first read this poem my freshman year of high school. at that time, I had to memorize it and realized how magical the rhythm of poetry can be. Furthermore, while I don't still have it memorized, I still love it. Poe's poems are hauntingly beautiful.

It was when I was in my 3rd grade that I was able to read this poem of Edgar Allen Poe, and since I can't understand it I asked my teacher what's the story of the poem. When I reached 9th grade I presented it to the whole class as my favorite poem,because I realized that it's was amazingly written and the story behind it radiates to my soul. From then on I decided to write poems and stories. That poem really inspired me to write poetry... ❤️😉

Karatics wrote: 22 Jun 2014, 20:36 It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea,
But we loved with a love that was more than love—
I and my Annabel Lee—
With a love that the wingèd seraphs of Heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsmen came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in Heaven,
Went envying her and me—
Yes!—that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;

For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea—
In her tomb by the sounding sea.
Wow it sounds much more amazing than Stevie Nick's version of Annabelle Lee I love it 😍
