Best poetry discovered as a child

Post by rnbwrhiannon3 »

What are your favorite poets/poems you discovered when you were a child? Mine are Shel Silverstein, Ogden Nash, and Emily Dickinson.

Mine is Daffodils. I don't remember who wrote it though, but it was so good

I am with a couple of the other people that have posted. I enjoyed Shel Silverstein and Emily Dickinson. I'm sure there are a few more I didn't read that much poetry when I was a child. However, I do think that a lot of things that are considered novels and not poetry are actually poetry in disguise.
Fabulous question!

I think the best poem that I read when I was a child was the “All things are bright and beautiful”. Upon memorizing that poem makes me interested with poetry.

Some may not include Shakespeare as a poet (I've heard several classifications of him!) but in middle school, I loved reading his sonnets. I had to memorize a monologue in 8th grade drama class and I chose one that I still remember to this day - Portia's mercy speech from The Merchant of Venice. I love strongly-marked cadences, but I thought Shakespeare's words blended together beautifully in spite of their lack of rhyme.
