I generally listen to soundtracks from movies like the ones in Lord of the Rings or from games or some classic music. That's of course when I am studying or relaxing.
For general musical amusement I always listen to grunge, metal, (hard)rock. Mostly from the nineties and before as contemporary music doesn't interest me much.

I'll just get to the point. When I feel like jamming out, I throw on this playlist.

I Don't Wanna Be In Love: Good Charlotte
I Made It: Cash Money
Lights Out: Far East Movement
I Will Not Bow: Breaking Benjamin
Wonderman: Tinie Tempah feat. Ellie Goulding
Something Happened on the Way to Heaven: Phil Collins
Love Drunk: Boys Like Girls
Make It Bun Dem: Skrillex and Damian Marley
When the Sun Goes Down: Kenny Chesney and Uncle Kracker
All I Want: A Day to Remember

This is definitely a short list, but you can get the general idea.

I don't have a particular playlist that I listen to, but I am a huge fan of The Maine, 5 Seconds of Summer, and One Direction (yes, you can laugh now.) Mostly, its whatever band I am into that particular day (which changes daily).

When I make playlists, I use a combination of different instrumentals. I use instrumental music as background music for literally anything; reading, cleaning, it even works for sleeping.
