I really liked the book...the only thing that bothered me was the narration...Slacker goes from present to past and back again in a jiffy... some kind of marking or identication could have been used to show that...

Other than that I loved Slacker and Free Fish Friday...

While i was reading the book , the story impressed me even though it was a blasé.
Thanks for writing this book Lee Stone.

A character-driven versus action-driven story holds potential for "blase." Sorry I realized that potential, but glad you found redemption in the meaning.

How did you like the book? What do you like most? What do you like least? Would you recommend the book for others to read? Why or why not?

Overall, I'd rate it 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed the setting and it was easy to step into. I felt like you could really step into the characters and their personalities. Although I wish we got to see more scenes outside the bar, I felt like I was in Slacker's world. Overall, I'd recommend it to most mystery lovers.

Really? I loved the book but there isn't much mystery in it, so I won't limit it to just mystery lovers. 8)

Although I am not one for crime novels, its synopsis got me thinking twice. It looks different with the main character being a fisherman investigating the death of his best friend. I might just give this book a try.

You can sample the first two chapters to see if the style and subject matters agrees with you. The overall response to the Slacker Mills books has been gratifying.

I loved the book. I thought it was more of a character study with a bit of mystery in it. I especially loved the 'Slacker' character, and was able to connect with him even though we don't have much in common. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciate a good read. My overall rating is 4 out of 4 stars.

Not a bad book overall, I had to keep reading to find out what happened to Jerry! I hate to say it, but I was not a fan of Slacker. I think he spent too much time thinking intimate thoughts about women, and I didn't get how all those women would find him desirable. During the investigation I did like the time Slacker spent as a possible suspect. I kept alternating between thinking that maybe he did do it and the truth will be revealed and feeling really sorry for him and hoping it would end soon so he could get on with his life. I don't think I've ever felt sympathy for a character that I didn't really like, so that was a first!

I also didn't get how so many women found Slacker desirable - maybe it's a Key West thing. :) Still, he was certainly a memorable, interesting character although, unlike you, I never once thought he killed Jerry.
