Good choice! I may switch and go for some Mira Grant...

If the group wants to , we can always choose to read and delve further into specific subgenres in later months as well :)
As long as they're welcome, I'm game :D
Thank you!

In turn, I've stayed away from books in this genre. However, being older, I'm willing to give it a try. Are there any suggestions of what Stephen King book(s) to read? Potentially something not too long and not too scary :).

If they are all long and scary, maybe more of a paranormal-type book?

Thank you, kio, for organizing this!
For something paranormal but not scary, you could try 'The Green Mile'. You could also try 'Misery', which has a little bit of gore but is more more psychologically focused and not in any way paranormal.
Hm...I'll look into those. Thank you for help, ryanj1!

You're welcome @hsimone. I'd agree with @ryanj1, Green Mile or Misery are both pretty good ones to go with for Stephen King :)

Hello everyone! This genre of the month sounds cool, so may I join?:D
It is bit hard to pick a book beforehand, but maybe for October I'll read something by John Connolly or Neil Gaiman. I don't know if those two are counted as horror authors, but theyy both freak me out in the best possible way :) I also spotted somewhere the Douglas and Preston duo. They wouldn't be my first thought when it comes to those genres, but I do like them. Lats year I read many of the Pendergast books in a matter of days. I stopped after finishing the Diogenes trilogy, but this might be a good time to get on it again.

Mmm but who know what horrors and paranormals may come my way in October, lol!

Of course @Topcho, anyone can. Both authors I think work just fine. After all, horror depends on the person. One might scare one person and not another :) hope you enjoy @hsimone :) another good title for anyone still looking is Horrostor by Grady Hendrix. It's a freaky ghost story set in an IKEA-type store. So scary for me, it was hard to finish :)

I thought I'd ask...
Is this going to be a thing where we can start various threads to discuss certain things (like in BOTM) or should it all be covered in the one thread? :eusa-think:

You're welcome! Maybe I'll reread it too. I haven't read it in over twenty years, I don't think. :o

Maybe I will read "The Eyes of the Dragon" as well. Isn't it more of a fantasy than horror though? :eusa-think:
