MOTM September 2017: StoppoppingtheP

Post by bookowlie »

I am pleased to announce that the September 2017 Member of the Month is…StoppoppingtheP! A frequent contributor since May 2014, she is an avid reader and an all-around positive force. Her reviews are always well written and interesting. StoppoppingtheP isn’t afraid to accept challenging assignments, as evidenced by her reviews of JT Alblood’s Code of Disjointed Letters and Kim Ekenar’s The Complete Callaghan Tetralogy (includes four books!). I first became familiar with her reviews when I stumbled across her opinions of the short story collection, Cherries in the Snow. At the time, another reviewer had written a negative take on the same book and it was particularly interesting to read StoppoppingtheP’s insightful 4-star review. StoppoppingtheP has started thought-provoking discussions about topics such as beginning a sentence with And or But and whether Roald Dahl’s books have violent undertones. She even started an Online Book Club poem that others could add to. In appreciation of her many contributions to this site, StoppoppingtheP deserves a round of applause!

Thank you CatInTheHat :)

I thought I might share a few things about myself, so here we go:
- I'm a pretty private person.
- I live in South Africa.
- I know 4 languages to different degrees of fluency.
- I despise racism and prejudice of any kind.
- I like watching K-drama (Korean dramas)
- I have a cat and a tortoise.
- I love spicy and savory foods.

Congratulations, StoppoppingtheP! I first met you via your 4-star review of Children of Covenant, then BOTD. I read the book because it was free and because of the good rating you gave. Both the book and your review deserve 4 stars. In that review, you mentioned that you despised prejudices (although you sometimes succumbed, like the rest of us mortals).

Thank you for sharing more about yourself, despite your being a private person. I am curious, though, if you can share about your screen name. That is if it is not too private.

Again, Congratulations! You MOTM inspire me.

Thank you so much for your great comment. :D

My screen name is StoppoppingtheP. This is because I used to read a lot of books by indie authors on some online websites, and many of them had a repetitive way of writing. One thing that so many of them would do was to write the sentence: "'Yup', she said, popping the P", or something to this effect.
I eventually got so annoyed at reading this sentence over and over in these books because it made the writing less original and imaginative. So that's the short story of my screen name. I know that it's a strange name, but that was the mood I was in at that time. If I had to change it I don't know what I would choose now. :wink2:

Oh, that's an interesting bit of history haha. I have not had the same experience as before I joined OBC, I was confined to reading bestsellers. But am I glad I'm here. There is a wealth of talent in new authors. And the sharing in the forums is priceless.

Thanks for the story about the P.
