"I think the author would have benefitted by using a different title than The Wicked Wives. The title makes the book sounds like a cheesy romance..."

They're wicked, not naughty. :o

"... or a chick-lit story about witches..."

They're wicked, not wiccans. :o

HA HA! Just teasing.[/quote]

I am looking for a new book to read (in the romance genre) and honestly the reason I opened this thread is because I thought this book would be one :D but after reading your review, I am interested.

I think you would enjoy the book. :) It's based on a true story which makes you realize that truth is often stranger than fiction.

Thanks. :) I think you would enjoy the book. It has a good mix of crime, mystery, corruption, sex, history, and even a little farce.

Very good review. It was very informative without giving away too much of the plot.

Thanks. That's always a struggle when writing a review....giving readers a flavor of the plot without revealing too much. :)

This review made me want to go out and read the book. Nice job Bookowlie!

I too enjoyed the writing of Gus Pelagatti. The novel was written exactly how I pictured Philly in the 1930's to be. Politics, race, economy issues, murder, and lets not forget marriage were all explored in detail. Makes one want to reconsider getting married.

I was blown away at the thought of this being based on a true story. Good writing from both Bookowlie and Mr. Pelagatti!

This is a great review. I thought the title was good until I saw the comment on the suggested change. I do see how it would attract manly those who watch "real housewives" type shows. It was not a girly romance with trash like these shows at all, I thought it was great!

This is a very well written review and I thank you for sharing the captivating details. The book sounds very interesting and I must put it on my to-read list. It's very easy for me to be absorbed in what I'm reading most of the time. I like choosing books with interesting titles, that pop out and call to me. This one definitely did. Well done!!!

Fantastic review! Soon as I post this I'm putting it on my "to read" list and heading over to Amazon. One of the more interesting aspects of the whole thing, to me at any rate, is that the author got onto the story because of some gossip he heard as a child.

I agree that the title seems a little misleading. I'm a big fan of old school pulp fiction and hardboiled type novels, this novel puts me in mind of those. Based on your review and the responses of those who have read the book I wonder if the author might have been trying for something along those lines when he chose the title: The Postman Always Rings Twice by James M. Cain immediately comes to mind as well as several others from that era.

Again, great review.

Thanks Mike_Lang for your kind words. I also loved that the author was inspired by the gossip he heard about the case as a child.

Well-written, very interesting review!
Boris Feldman, aka the Rabbi, is a particularly entertaining character during the interrogations and courtroom scenes.
Eye-catching sentence!
Your review sounds like the author really handled the entire historical-fiction-based-on-fact issues extremely competently!

Thanks Ramona. I really enjoyed this book. I do have a preference for true crime books and this one was a close cousin, being fiction based on true crime. The added historical aspect was a nice bonus.

I like this review of "Wicked Wives". It sounds suspenseful of which I like suspense novels. Novels based on true events are very pealing to me, as I also like movies, and documentaries that are based on true e events such as th"the Mothman Propercies". Which was about a sighting of a moth like creature in Point Pleasant, West Virginia who would show up at a site before a tragic event would happen there.
