Indicating mistyped words in review

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. You can feel free to ask general questions about spelling and grammar. You can also provide example sentences for other members to proofread and inform you of any grammar mistakes.

Indicating mistyped words in review

Post by kfwilson6 »

Every now and then I will use an example from a book I am reviewing of a word the author used and the word the author should have used. For instance, the author typed braced rather than embraced.
What is the proper way to include these words?

The author typed "braced" instead of "embraced."
The author typed 'braced' instead of 'embraced.'
The author typed braced instead of embraced.

Note to my kind-hearted friends using British English, I'm asking from an American English standpoint. I just point this out because i know quotation marks are usually reversed with direct quotes getting a single quotation mark.

Thank you to anyone who can clarify.

I use quotation marks to make it clear.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

Thank you. I wasn't sure if for some reason that was considered incorrect. I had an editor tell me I need inverted commas so I wanted to get some other feedback, as I couldn't find a clear answer online.
