Difficulty with adverbial phrase

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. Difficulty with adverbial phrase

Post by Helga_ »

I teach English and one of my jobs is to grade exam papers. My mother tongue is not English, so I don't have that "natural" grasp of English grammar rules. I'd appreciate it if yall look at these sentences and judge them in terms of correctness or appropriateness.

correct answer: I ask that you take more care in choosing what you print.
student answer
example #1: I ask in choosing what you print that you take more care.
example #2: I ask that in choosing what you print you take more care.

correct answer: There was something immensely soothing in that process.
student answer
example #1: There was something in that process soothing immensely.
example #2: In that process, there was something soothing immensely.

In the first example, the student's answer is also correct, with one caveat. The addition of commas after the word "ask" and "print" are needed.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.
