Hyphen a matter of style?

Some grammar rules (and embarrassing mistakes!) transcend the uniqueness of different regions and style guides. This new International Grammar section by OnlineBookClub.org ultimately identifies those rules thus providing a simple, flexible rule-set, respecting the differences between regions and style guides. You can feel free to ask general questions about spelling and grammar. You can also provide example sentences for other members to proofread and inform you of any grammar mistakes.

Hyphen a matter of style?

Post by Misael »

Is the use or non-use of hyphen a matter of style and thus should not be considered a grammatical error?

They are not always purely stylistic. Here's some good information on hyphens. https://owl.purdue.edu/owl/general_writ ... n_use.html

Thank you for this! But since the examples were not exhaustive, how do I identify which is stylistic and which is actually a grammatical error?

The examples do give you an idea of what to look for. It's not possible for someone to make an exhaustive list of examples.
