What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.

The hint is to look back through my guesses.

Relatively modern for a 'classic', but a classic all the same, my choice includes the supernatural.
What is grief, if not love persevering?
Grief is just love with no place to go.

Some would argue this negates it being a classic, but I'm going by the sheer number of readers, cultural changes/traditions it has wrought, and overall affect it has had.
This is the first in a series, has had a film adaptation, and could probably be guessed by someone who's never read/watched it.
Also, it is not Harry Potter
