I don't think there is a main character in this story. All of the characters contribute to the story about equally; however, this character along with just a few others has a somewhat more prominent role than many of the others.

Sorry rssllue, I didn't see your post.

During the duration of the novel the character is not in school.

While the character is not the main character, is there a chance he is, at any point, the "leader?"

This is a tough question to answer. There are fleeting MOMENTS when he is accepted by all to be, shall we say, the designated leader, but his role is almost always a subordinate one. The best way to consider him is as a subordinate character throughout the novel in relation to some but of a higher "rank" (for want of a better word) to others.

I suppose it depends on who you talk to. Some would see him as a leader of sorts, others would see him as someone to be derided, and at least one other sees, or at least treats him, as an equal.

This is getting confusing.

Well, my working theory (of the moment) is that the book is The Lord of the Flies?

Conch shell, all young boys, etc...

However, I'll now wait while you disabuse me of that idea.

Interesting theory. :eusa-think: I think I'll wait too until you are abused or not. Wait...
