Elinor Dashwood? Or does she count as "the main protagonist"?
Wait HOW do you hate Elinor?!?!

I don't, it's just a guess. I can see Austen intending that certain readers would be supposed to dislike her.

GUESS:
Bertha Rochester (insane first wife of Edward Rochester) in Charlotte Bronte's, Jane Eyre, who, as a result of an unfortunate miscalculation, decided to use her four-poster bed as fuel for a weenie roast. [Speculative]

Wow, fantastic character Helen, and great guess DATo!

Thanks for the handoff too!

Ok, clue:

Oh no, not my girl! How can I swallow this pill?!
Well, I'll be sly; you'll not see me cry. But pay for this you will.

Sorry to be coming late to this conversation (I’m not receiving email notifications at present which is driving me up the wall). Also sorry for interrupting the next game however, I have to add.

How could anyone hate Elinor Dashwood? To be honest, I couldn’t stand Marianne with her endless selfish whining.

Yes to this! Marianne and Kitty (from P&P) are much more akin to my dislike.
