Adult Coloring Books

Post by amybo82 »

I've noticed that adult coloring books have become really popular lately! Several years ago, I worked for a bookstore, and we carried a few different styles for adults. There were Mandala coloring books and novelty books like the Gangsta Rap Coloring Book. Lately, though, I've noticed them everywhere! I recently read an article about Johanna Basford, who created the coloring books Secret Garden and Enchanted Forest that went on to sell millions of copies! I've also seen independent artists producing coloring books like Valerie Dowdy's Abstract Expressions. I love to color, and I've really been enjoying this new trend. What does everyone else think about it?

Have you ever had any of Ruth Heller's books?

I used to color all the time. I loved geometric shapes. My husband thinks it is very silly and a waste of money to buy. I haven't colored in a long time but I do find myself drawing lines and coloring with pens or pencils.

It is a good way to de-stress. I took a creative arts therapy course while getting my BA in psychology and coloring/ painting was a big part of healing. I may just say F*&^ and buy a coloring book and some markers. :P

I love coloring! I use my "I'm a preschool teacher and I'm helping the kids learn fine motor skills" as an excuse to do it myself. I really wish I had one of these adult coloring books!

I used to color a lot too! If your husband is stubbornly against it, you can find free images online and print them out, to color!! :)

But I like your other idea too. You tell him. 8)
