The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells

(Honestly! I thought that Amish Vampires in Space would be kooky as all get out, but it actually managed to have a plausible book logic for why a bunch of Amish people became vampires and sailed into space -and not necessarily in that order. Surprisingly solid plot and developed cast of characters, though it was a bit too slow-paced for me to recommend it fully.)
