What is the inspiration for your avatar? Is it book related?

When I was looking for an avatar, I came across quite a few that depicted roses and books together, but I chose the blue rose because I feel it represents my uniqueness. Blue is also the color for autism awareness, which many people in my family (myself included) have in some form.

Recently found out about Hilda, a plus size pinup that was apparently very popular from the 50's to the 80's, who's made a bit of a come back of late. I love the body positivity she represents.

I'm so tired of culture that makes body shaming and harassment okay. It's not okay. And so, Hilda...


Hilda is big, and beautiful, and her pinups are less about the viewer and more about her, which makes them so much more appealing than traditional pinups, at least to me.
And she shows that bigger people are not necessarily lazy and inactive (though not in the ones I've shared here, those tend to be a bit more revealing ), disproving the typical belief that precedes and propagates the harmful stereotype.

(Hilda is also modeled after a number of actual women.)

My avatar is from my childhood when I would go to the Saturday afternoon movies at our local theater.They played the old cowboy movies, Roy And Gene, Allan "Rocky" Lane and many others from Republic studios. Best of all were the serials Rocketman, Superman, Captain Marvel and so on with a different chapter every week. Would Rocketman stop the evil Dr. Vulcan from destroying the world with his atomic destructo-ray? Would Superman rescue Lois Lane from the clutches of the Spider Lady? See the next exciting chapter at this theater next week! Whenever that eagle flashed on the screen we knew we were in for an afternoon of excitement and adventure.

I love the Republic symbol, though I enjoy RKO's the best overall for some reason.

Yeah I liked RKO with the radio tower. I remember one logo that had a tiger but I dont remember the studio.

Only one I can think of is Mandalay.

This was from way back in the 30's, I think it was a tiger on a globe of the world. It seems it was in a lot of those old B hour long westerns that were popular at that time.

There must have been a lot of now-defunct studios producing those way back then.

Yeah there were quite a few of those what they called poverty row studios that produced low-budget B movies. Republic, Monogram, Lippert, PRC, to name a few and Lone Star who produced John Waynes first movies.

I was going to say that he was in a lot of those early, low-budget westerns. Stagecoach seemed to be the big spark for his career to vault him out of those into stardom.
