I really loved the movie, but I liked the book more. I love the details you can get from the book that they skip in the movie.

I read the book right before the movie came out and I was actually very pleased with it.

By reading the comments above, I guess I would try the movie first. And if I get time I may try the book. But now I am going after the trailer, right now!

I watched the movie before reading the book which I don't often do but there was a lot of hype around it so I wanted to check it out. I was a little bit disappointed by it. I think mainly because people had over sold it for me so my expectations were so high.

Usually I like the book better than the movie. Either they deleted parts of the book that I liked or the characters are different but this book is one of the rare times that a really loved the movie as much as the book.

I had the opportunity to watch the movie a while ago and I really enjoyed the level of suspense and that the director stayed true to the book, but I think I want to reread it again!

Overall, I did like the movie and I also appreciated how much the movie stayed true to the book. However, I believe I will always prefer books over movies simply because there are so many thoughts, etc. that cannot be translated well into the movie medium. I get the most enjoyment out of reading the book first so I can use my knowledge of the story to get more out of the movie.
I completely agree. Even when the movie is good, the book is always better. In this case, the producers managed to make a good movie that followed the same storyline as the book, which is amazing. However, the little details are always lost in the process, which makes the novel stand out.

I've both read the book and seen the movie, and I still prefer the book. I'm a stickler for having movies be 100% true to the book, and while the movie did an admirable job of it, it wasn't perfect. I know there are no movies 100% true to the book so I tend to avoid movies based on books.
Comment on my review and I'll comment on yours. I'm always looking for new books to read!

Book, of course! I enjoy John Green's style of writing and that is an additional charm of the book.

The movie was really good, but the book is good as well. There are many cases where the movie is not as good as the book, but this is not one.

The movie seemed nice enough but of course the book was much better.

Besides, somehow in the movie it seemed that Q only wanted to find Margo because he found her attractive and wanted to be with her, which is even addressed by Margo in the movie.

In the book, Q genuinely cared about Margo and wanted her to be safe. He also tried to understand her thoughts and problems through the book she had left (even though he was wrong about the book having clues, he at least tried) and by talking to her old friends

Both the movie and the book were really good! But since movies always leave some things out, books always win. :)

I did enjoy the movie and how true it stayed to the book. However, I was kind of disappointed by the lack of chemistry displayed through the movie between the characters, especially the three boys. It was also lacking the genuine emotional details that the book had, so I must give the book a higher rating.

I liked the movie. They didn't jump away from the plot of the book and the acting was actually pretty decent. I do prefer the book - I really enjoy John Green's books and my favourite so far is Looking for Alaska, seconded by The Fault in Our Stars.

I preferred the book, as it provides more detail. But I do understand that a movie can't exactly make it the same as the book.
