Different Shapes of Love

DIFFERENT SHAPES OF LOVE

What is it about,
When we fall in love,
With more than one person at once.

I believe we learn to do this,
By learning to love our brothers and sisters,
So much.

To pledge your love to only one,
The someone else comes along.
And we find ourselves falling in love,
And we think that this is wrong.

A friendship can grow into a love,
And a love can grow into a friendship.
But you feel you want to walk away,
And be with this other person.

That is when you need to know,
There are many shapes of love in this world.
And it is up to you to figure out,
Before you go out on a whirl.

Before you break the heart,
Of the one that you are with.
Understand your heart is open,
To all love to come in.

You did not love one sister or brother,
More than another.
And if you got tired of playing,
You would seek out the other.

So do not think there should be a magic switch,
When you love some body else.
You will always love the one,
You just put on the shelf.

It is not wrong to love more than one,
It is something you learned.
When you had the choice in your family,
And gave each brother and sister a turn.

Do not close your heart to the one,
As you walked away.
Open your heart much wider now,
And keep them in their place.

Do not shut down your heart,
When you change your love.
Know that love for them will always be there,
And except it as who you are.

The first stanza is very interesting - it pulls the reader in.
After that the poem is repetitive - telling the reader what they already know.
I would consider condensing the lines and thinking of strong originality.
