Alien Landing

Post by Lincolnshirelass »

'This is Earth Lander Calling Base,
do you read me loud and clear?
We've touched down in the pre-planned place,
after many a space-spent year,
Earth has us in its embrace
so now we'll start exploring here.'
'Base to Earth Lander, that's good news,
we're looking forward to your views.'

'Earth Lander here. At first I thought
My mission would be sadly brief,
both it and my life cut short,
Home-planet heads bowed down in grief,
and not the glory that we sought,
we journeyed here with the belief
aired by our scientists before
that the air was fresh and pure!

No sooner had I, roused from sleep
to stop me ageing on the way,
taken my own giant leap
as the Earthlings like to say,
and breathed a breath both long and deep -
I thought it was my dying day!
As I began to wheeze and choke
in the pollution and the smoke.

Well, finally, though still unwell
I decided to explore,
so I'd have something I could tell,
of life beyond the capsule door -
fighting the acrid, clinging smell,
I teleported, and for sure,
I thought the place I stood unseen
and heard the shouting must have been

The place of torment for the damned,
the vision and the sound of hell,
for it was hard to understand
every rant and every yell,
Base, when you had this mission planned,
did you know of the place where dwell
these screaming Earthlings? Future Missions -
walk in fear of POLITICIANS!

But it seemed, I have to say,
the Earthlings have great riches, too,
and they spend millions every day,
in currencies both old and new,
and dine on a wonderful array
of tasty food .... at least, some do.
But others starve, their bellies empty
in this planet full of plenty.

Base, that shocked me, I'll admit,
I thought, this Planet's not for me,
and you can count me out of it
when you start the colony,
Longing for the Mother Ship,
then suddenly, I paused to see -
a couple tenderly embrace -
and took a liking to the place!
An Eye for an Eye only ends up making the whole world blind.
