the art of living
To these nothing can compare
Like a desert traveller in clothing threadbare
I shiver as though in throes of a fever
When thoughts of these in my mind do stir
When the director calls for the final curtain call
And the actors bow out in foretold sequence
I shall be of appearance dazed and stare at all
With mouth agape my slackened jaw may fall
For I fear I shall not have lived at all
So move was through life's serendipity
With actions of one attempting to touch
One and all moments
With a hunger unprecedented
I cause all to flow about me in river like slow motion
So that like a hungry ocean,
When I do bow out
I shall regurgitate all heretofore swallowed up
I shall savour my last act and subsequent ovation
But perhaps the reverse
Shall one and all arise
And for all my years of practice
And two minute presentation
Shall have but a dim memory of my play
I fear, I shall not be remembered at all
