Fragmented Night

Post by Lincolnshirelass »

Wakefulness in weary wedges,
sleep-soaked slivers slipping through,
blurring jarred and jagged edges....

Memories of those I knew,
half-whispering and half demanding,
hovering the whole night through,

Half-confused, half-understanding
all too well, I sleep and wake,
consciousness, confusion, banding

half-lighting the path I take,
half making the darkness stronger,
like a snowfall, flake by flake,

that blur and make the journey longer,
but have beauty of their own,
of days when sleep and I were younger,

and seeds of doubt had not been sown ..
I toss and turn, half-rouse, half fall
into a deeper sleep, alone

and yet with with friends, with foes, and all
static and in frenzied flight,
and hours speed past, and minutes crawl,

And half in fear, half in delight,
I go through the fragmented night.
An Eye for an Eye only ends up making the whole world blind.
