No peace without justice

Post by Bamidele Akeem Mosad »

Slayer

Skip me over, I am a page too
Sad, too stark to be read
By a faint heart, the heart of flesh.

My father is dead
Murdered by marauding
Herdsmen in his own farm.
The government would not act
They are her kinsmen.

I am a young one yet
My little hands cannot reach
The rafters where the scabbarded
sword of my forbears lies quiescent;

How, how do I comfort my
Helpless mother wet with much tears?

They laugh at me, the murderers
They watch with glee as I flounder on
The path they have dug and bloodied
with ripped off lives, the path
paved with keen steel knives.

My father's ghost laughs too
Mocking me to my face
I hear him snicker in my sleep
His shadowy cast darkening the cornered space.

Skirt me wide, I am a page sad
Too stark to be read by a faint heart
The heart of flesh and, my name is Vengeance.
