First Snow

Post by Lincolnshirelass »

It fell unnoticed overnight,
in thin and softly filtered flakes
no wild blizzard's frothy flight,

a frosty, drizzling snow that takes
time to fall and time to stay,
and as the late, cold morning breaks,

White has iced the concrete grey,
and roof-tops wear an icing crown,
perhaps it will not last the day,

the first snow that came gently down,
and somehow took us by surprise
in the still November town.

On days like this the snow soon dies,
and all is grey and hard once more -
but, briefly, at least, it lies -

on pavements, rooftops, roads and shore,
for a few moments, crisp and pure.
An Eye for an Eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

At last, I've found your poem! 😄
I had been scrolling and flipping the OBC pages to get to your poems.
