Pluto's Revenge

Post by Lincolnshirelass »

Poor Pluto (oh, how sad its fate is)
lost its planetary status,
even though the pics from space
reveal its most surprising face.
A fascinating world, for sure ....
just not a planet anymore.

Well, Pluto, thus robbed of its crown
wouldn't take it lying down,
Saw no reason for the fall,
does size matter after all?
By inter-planetary phone
it called the sun to make this known.

'Listen, Mister Sun,' it said,
'Why don't they pick on Earth instead?
They mess things up by night and day,
just so they can have their way,
resources ruin, spoil and squander,
isn't that a point to ponder?'

The Sun considered Pluto's plea,
and found that it had to agree,
True, Pluto was distant, small,
but did no harm, no, none at all,
and in an instant, then and there
sent out a mighty solar flare.

So still, eight planets fill the sky,
not nine, as was in times gone by,
but there's an empty space that jars
somewhere between Venus and Mars,
Ended the shame Pluto endured -
its rightful status is restored!
An Eye for an Eye only ends up making the whole world blind.

@Lincolnshirelass
Lovely! And quite apropos. This poem was a fun read and exhibits a lot of talent. And I find myself saying once again, thanks for sharing one of your gems with us!!

The status of Pluto is now restored to planethood according to those powers-that-be, that Astronomical society, just recently. I just wonder if that bestowed any additional benefits for Pluto to enjoy. lol. A very disciplined poem you got here. Amazing meter and rhyme.
