The Letter

Post by Kelebogile Mbangi »

"There is no letter for you my child."
As those words sink in, the cluttered office cubicle becomes opaque...
Opaque through a veil of my tears.
Uneasy, the big man accross the desk clears his throat.
"When a child cries for education and not the tavern, it is touching"
In my perplexed state, his words do little to comfort me.
No letter?
No letter means no bursary... No funding... No books...
Oh... How cruel the letter that has evaded me is!

One defining moment immortalized through a poem. Thanks for sharing this.
"Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
(The Old Astronomer to His Pupil by Sarah Williams)

I really love this poem.It brings to memory my childhood days when i was struggling to get education.It was hard as my father,a peasant farmer was struggling to pay for my education.There were no letters for poor and needy children like me.I fathom this poem.Look at the structure and give it a beautiful look.
Those are my thoughts and feelings.

Keep on writing!
