Hope and the Hopeless

Post by Victoria Elma »

Hope is the shimmer of

a dewdrop
falling in slow motion
to touch skin,
like brightness into self--
absorbed,
and gone the next

second.

Waal, that is a good poem, great. I like the imagery of hope likened to the a falling drop. The scenario painted is that of existence of hope that soon fades away. Well written.

Thank you for sharing your work. I was very fascinated by your poem and I am impressed by the fact that you made a great comparison with so little words. You also made use of spacing (which I hardly see) and it gave more meaning to your poem! The only criticism I can give is that I did not understand the crucial and climactic bit "like brightness into self--" I was wondering if this was also a simile, but what brightness into self? I would be so happy if you would clarify this point.

This is so simple but so eloquent and beautiful. I love the deeper meaning of the concept of hope and how it can seem to disappear. Lovely work!

Nice poem! As Mashell Chapeyama said, beautiful imagery.
