Friendly Fires

Post by Sophy Chunge »

The bitter aftermath when the stars collide;
The food chain breaks and the fools fight,
Fanatic degenerates lose their humanity
They slaughter people and get away with it

With their speech and actions they worship war
With their lips they give praise to the Prince of Peace
They haven’t learned how to win without assassination
Verbal fights, propaganda and ruining others’ reputation
Saying ‘vote, it’s your right’ but meaning ‘vote, I must win’
Leaving out the part about conscientious objection and neutrality
Leaving out the part about accepting the loss if they miss the victory
Can the world be protected by resuscitating political warrin’?
Can lessons from history be the road to the future?
As long as man rules man man’s ruination has no cure
Are they leaders or gold fanatics seeking entitlement?
Are they out to make a name or to create development?
They have exalted themselves, they think they are God
History has not yet written that heroism is dead

Where will they be when the sirens sound hour after hour?
Where will they be when the sirens become louder?
Where will they be when the climate becomes bloodier?
(Surrounded by a loyal security army?)
When the doctors strike they fly overseas for treatment
When the teachers strike their child is an international student
They do not care for the citizen as an individual persona
Their chests are puffed up with pride and they desire power
Citizens are only worthy when they vote in their favor
Or fall for the allure of the high profile politician’s dispense
After the wife is made a widow they speak of recompense
After a father dies of hunger they feed sympathy to his family
It is only after the children become orphans that they will feign pity
They politicize burials as mourners suffer the pain of mortality
They fabricate concern whilst freezing their blood in money
The commoner’s security detail is made of sex deprived insurgents
They scare citizens and offer protection to the incumbents
Silencing the witnesses is their technique of investigation
Bullets and brutality are their closed ended questions

Praise and glory belong to God, Only to God and not to man
Do they know that Satan tried to tempt Jesus?
By offering him the political power of the world?
Do they know that God does not take sides?
That the governments will be brought to nothing
That The Sovereign ruler will take over the kingship
That there is one avenue of peace and security
The avenue of hope and fulfilled promises
The marriage of ethnicity, color and creed

The actual bearer of the sword is not the commander
Your neighbor could be a ruthless inciter or murderer?
Look out! They smile at you today, they kill you tomorrow
And when the bulls fight it’s the grass that dies in sorrow

The bitter aftermath when the Stars collide;
The food chain breaks the fools fight,
Fanatic degenerates lose their humanity
They barbecue people and get away with it

I'm curious why you called this poem "Friendly Fires".
Felt the sincerity in this piece, by the way. Great job.
"Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."
