Together in my Headd

Post by Chris Lyth »

Together in my Head

I want to laugh
I need to cry
I want to scream and curse.
I’d like to hope
But all I see
Is my life getting worse

It seems to me
That I need company
But I cannot bear the crowd
I crave the peace
To sit and read.
My TV I’ve turned up loud.

I’m a lot of people
Together in my head.
We disagree
On who to be
When reason, it has fled.

The world is broken.
No words are spoken,
All songs are left unsung.
We sit alone.
Nothing gets done.
Nightmares hold our tongue.

I’m a lot of people
Together in my head.
I’ll make it through,
That’s what we do
When all is done and said.

When things look bleak
I bare my teeth
And strike a happy pose,
But underneath
Dark currents seethe
Melancholy haunts my prose.

I laugh
I smile
Just for a while.
I refuse to watch the news,
For if I do
I’ll get a clue
Of all I stand to lose.

I need to know
Of events that flow
In the world outside my room
And yet I dread
That relentless thread
Of deeds that shape our doom.

I’m a lot of people
Together in my head.
We’re all I’ve got
But that’s a lot
Lot better than being dead.
(Probably.)
