This Night...

Post by 0ldG0ld »

The rain beats the windows almost to the point of breaking it. The lighting flashed brightly outside and the crackling thunder followed. A mouse-like girl sat at the dark oak table that seems to go on forever. The house was desolate of joy and laughter; only the cloud of melancholy filled the house. A booming bark breaks the silence and the girl's countenance illuminates and she gently pats her loving pet. The dog's tail wagged side to side almost as if it is following the rhythm of a song. The girl found comfort with her dog to substitute her parents who were absent most of the day due to working long hours to pay the bills. It was a usual night for the girl but this night will not be like the monotonous days she always experiences.

The girl was looking down at her microwaved meal. It contained colorless macaroni and cheese, a scrumptious brownie and chicken nuggets that were so deformed they may have been mutated by radioactive chemicals. She grabs all of the deformed chicken nuggets and let her dog eat from her cupped hands until there wasn't a single crumb left. She slowly eats her food and starts to wonder if a kid normally sits at the dinner table alone or are they surrounded by their family who loves them dearly. The latter is something she always dreams of, to be able to feel the warmth of her parents' love. But dreams don't always come true and rather stay as a dream. She knows so and it hurts to know she may never accomplish that dream. If only her parents would listen to her when she asked if they can stay for one day with her. Being workaholics they denied her request. They do buy what she needs and she is grateful for that but it would be nice if they just spend some time with her she thought. She falls down into the abyss filled with depressing thoughts until her dog starts to growl. He is growling towards the glass sliding door across the table that goes to the backyard. She tries to look past all the rain and sees a tall dark figure. It is hunched over and looks as if it has been starving for months and....it's glowing eyes are looking straight at her. Its hunger was evident in its eyes. It may be looking for its next meal inside the house.

It seemed like they were staring at each other for hours and then the thing crawled towards her at lightning speed. Before she could react, it was at the door banging at it. It was the thing of nightmares. It was a bag of bones with gray skin and its eyes were entirely yellow. Its mouth was a chainsaw that was ready to rip apart flesh... her flesh. The dog jumped back and barked maliciously at the danger. The girl falls back and starts to hyperventilate. She calms herself down by closing her eyes and taking deep breaths. She calms down and gets her house phone on the kitchen counter. She dials 911 and she looks at the door to see that the glass is almost broken. She starts to panic again and starts to fidget wondering what is taking them so long to answer. Loud barking and banging were knives to the girls head and she started to feel dizzy. She thought why did this have to happen to her. Will she be eaten alive by the creature at the door? That will be a terrible way to die and how will her parents react to.... the banging stops and is replaced with a shriek. She looks at the door to see the creature is looking to its left and starts to run away but a glowing blue hand grabs the creature's leg and drags it. The creature digs its fingers into the ground to keep away from the unknown thing. It screams at the top of its lungs and looks at the girl. Its eyes had had no hunger in it but rather fear. It knew it will be its last day alive and was scared of that." Please... help me." said the creature with a raspy voice. This sent chills down her spine. Apparently, this creature knows how to speak her language. What is it if it knows how to speak? Before she could ask it her question, it was violently yanked from her line of sight. She is frozen, wondering what just happened. The voice on the other line breaks her train of thought." This is 911, what is your emergency?" She wonders what to say since there was no emergency. Then she opens her mouth to say," I thought I was in danger from something or perhaps someone outside. But I may have never been in danger at all but rather the thing outside may have been trying to run away from something else and seeking help." The calm voice responds," What is your address?"1340 Oakberry Lane" the girl said in a drowsy voice. The 911 operator tells her something but everything started to fade in and out. Before she knew it, everything turned into darkness. She falls to the ground motionless. Her dog goes up to her and starts to nudge her hand and head. He whines and lays beside his companion waiting until the moment she wakes up.

The police came to her house along with her parents who went straight to their daughter to see if any harm came to her. They hugged her when they saw she was on the floor passed out. They started panicking until she moved. They were so relieved when she moved and hugged her more. The dog joined in with the reunion. Then they looked at the door and their blood ran cold. The door had multiple of cracks running on the door with two circles connecting. The police talked to the parents about what they had found. The parents' faces were petrified when they heard the details. After that, her parents cut down their hours so they could spend more hours with her. She is so glad about this but something has been bothering her. What was it that had banged on her door? Was it perhaps human? Where did it come from? What was it that dragged the creature away? And the question the bothered her the most; would the creature still be alive if she had set aside her fears and let it in? These questions may never be answered and that night will remain a mystery. She looks outside the glass door and sees something glowing blue.
