I have three very young daughters and I am always looking for great liturature I can stash away. This sounds like one I will be looking to add to my collection. I also love how well you reviewed the story line of the book. I would be a little more interested in knowing how it touched you as a reader. I am very selective about what i read and I look for books that are empowering to me as a reader no matter what genre. Over all very well written review. I am looking forward to reading this book!

Excellent review. But a good book is a good book. I haven't read it, but my guess is that it is suitable for a much wider readership than "girls aged 11-14."

The Library of Congress has a list of classic books for "kids" which includes Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Dracula, Moby Dick, A Study In Scarlet, and White Fang.

The Contra Costa County Library includes the following in its "Best Young Adult Book" list: The Call of the Wild, A Christmas Carol, Dandelion Wine, Ethan Frome, The Fellowship of the Ring, Foundation, Frankenstein, The Hound of the Baskervilles, Macbeth, Moby Dick, Pride and Prejudice, The Red Badge of Courage, and Wuthering Heights.

I hope the author never considers her book to be inferior to "adult" books; most of the great classics that have withstood the test of time are regularly mentioned in various lists of books for "kids."

I didn't realize this was yours! I guess I thought your sig meant it was your review. Never checked. Derp.

I will definitely have to give this book a read then. I've never bought an ebook from Amazon before (can I read it on my computer?), but will add it to my cart and let you know when I buy and read it!

Hey, that would thrill me to no end! Feel free to share any honest thoughts, good/bad.

Yeah, I myself have the Kindle reader on my box computer and I use it occasionally. (I'm more into paperbacks.) But if you're a Nook user, then you should wait until mid-March, when I'll have it available for that platform.

Oh. And to the best of my knowledge, the Kindle reader download app for computer is still free, unlike the actual Kindle devices.

The book is the March Book of the Month. Try to get the book and read it soon, so you can participate in the upcoming book discussion. I just downloaded the book yesterday and look forward to reading it! It looks like a great book.

Hello! I really enjoyed reading your review. I joined recently this website and the review team and I was thinking what kind of books I will find here. After reading your review I'm more optimistic about all these. :)

This looks great! I usually read adult and YA romance novels but sometimes it is nice just taking a step back to read a book that is pure, fun and reminiscent of your youth.

I'm not normally a fan of first person done in this way. This story, though, I count an exception now that I've started reading. I agree with you about good adult role models. This is the first book I've seen in a while that has that aspect. Thank you for the clear and honest review. This is not a book I would have normally picked up, but you persuaded me and I'm so glad you did!!

I just bought it!

I'll be a bit late to the discussion probably (have a lot of work in the next week and at in the middle of another for-fun book right now). I read stuff on the computer slower, but should have it started by next weekend!

Great review! I'm not a huge fan of the genre, but your description of the characters & the storyline
leave me compelled to check this book out. My reading preferences may lean away from these types
of books, but as the mother of a 13 year old girl, I am always on the look out for books that she can
relate to. I am looking forward to reading more of your reviews in the future!

Yay! You've made my day, and Grover's too. :character-grover: Don't worry about being late to the book of the month... March is a looooong month.

Did you just call my book a for-fun book? I resent that. My book isn't fun at all. It is a serious work of literature. In fact, there's isn't anything funny about it. (Snort.) :P HA HA HA HA.

Happy reading to you and everyone else! :)
