It was very slow to start and very sad yet informative. I enjoyed reading because it portrays the history quite well and I learned alot that I didn't know. I was very sad and intrigued thru the whole experience would read again as well as others by author. Very pleased with the purchase and very happy I was given the opportunity to read it. I hope I get another good book like that one. I would definitely give this book ten stars if allowed. I also loved tje characters because they were very realistically detailed that I could actually picture tje faces and places in the book. I'm not sure if this was based on a true experience but either way it was a wonderful learning adventure for me. I hope to find more books like this about our lost history. When the bombings and racial problems occurred I actually cried because I could feel the pure sadness and devastation of those poor people. Even though I never experienced this Era I feel like I was there living in their shoes and living their experiences. And to be a nun during that time even must have been worse being African American as well. I was hopeful for a good ending but it wasn't really a good experience for the characters at all . But they were strong women and powerful in their own ways. It makes me proud to be a woman even though I'm not African American I am proud to have read this book.
