Walking in blind by Kaviru Gayathri is a collection of poems. It is full of emotions and summarizes most occurrences in one’s life. It shows how a human being has different phases of life. At times we are happy other times we are sad. We celebrate as well as mourn. Other times we feel loved while at times we feel neglected and lonely. Those we love and trust betray us and we tend to think it is the end of the world. We question so many happenings and to some extend wonder why we were even brought into this world. We tend to blame everyone else for what is happening in our life but us. All this has been properly brought out in this collection of poetry making it such a wonderful book.

Published in 2017, Walking in blind is not only used to express different emotions but also it appropriates English literature through poetry. Kaviru Gayathri has used poetry to tell story of her life and that of other people’s life. Mostly she has used free verse in her poems though some of them have a rhythm. Use of repetition has helped emphasize subject matter of her poems. For example in a poem like “All you left Behind” the phrase 'all you left behind' has being repeated in each stanza to emphasize on the magnitude of the loss and the things one has to deal with when a dear one leaves them.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It appreciates use of poetic devices such as repetition. Rhetoric questions have also been used for example in the poem ‘holding into hell ‘as well as in ‘how come’. I like how Walking in Blind combines different types of poems from ballads (about love) to elegy (express lament over loss of a loved one) thus making it diversified hence preventing the book from being monotonous and boring.

I recommend this collection of poems to anyone who loves and appreciates poetry work. It is the best piece of poetry I have seen. The poems have been compiled from all walks of life from love stories to broken relationships to loss of our loved through the cruel hand of death. It is also a helpful piece for anyone feeling low as it can lift one’s spirit by finding consolation in reading some beautiful pieces by Kaviru Gayathri.

The writer has shown her prowess in poetry and used it to bring out emotions which most people would rather suppress rather than express not knowing that suppressing bitter moments in our life makes life unbearable. The book is full of emotions both happy and sad but mostly sad. Walking in Blind is an interesting book to read.
