Review of Catnip of Life
Catnip of Life consists of a variety of poems all centered around the beauty of nature. The author, Sharla Lee, uses her poetry as a way to inspire readers to look at life in a whole new way. Each chapter and poem serves as a guide and a way for the reader to reflect on their own life. This reflection is meant to help the reader with their own personal discovery. Through the collection of poems, Catnip of Life gives us a way to understand nature, and its importance in each of our lives. Lee emphasizes the need to be thankful for Mother Nature and the amazing gifts she brings us. Through this book, the reader can take a step back from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and listen to nature’s message in a new way. Catnip of Life allows the reader to appreciate the simple things in life and the natural beauty all around us.
I really enjoyed this book. I typically do not read poetry, but I thought I would give this one a try. I was pleasantly surprised by the value that this book provided me with. I found myself fully invested in each poem. I loved interpreting the meaning behind each one and reflecting on the messages presented in them. The author did a great job giving the reader lots to learn from. I believe that I learned many lessons that I can apply to my daily life. I loved Lee’s message about appreciating the simple things in life. It made me look at life in a whole new way. There truly is beauty in even the most basic things, and I now see that every day. I think that everyone can benefit from the lessons presented in these poems.
There was nothing to dislike about this book. I thought that a book that had each poem centered around nature would get very repetitive. However, this was not the case at all. The author did an exceptional job giving each poem its own unique story and message. I found myself completely engaged in every poem I read. The author also included a section on every few pages called “Thought for a New Day”, which was personally one of my favorite parts of the book. The “Thought for a New Day” was a sentence after a poem that encouraged the reader to do something specific. It always related to the poem that was above it and gave the reader something to reflect on and contemplate. This was a unique touch that I have never seen in a book before!
Overall, this was an exceptional book. Lee gives the reader so much to think about and learn from. The book allows the reader to interpret nature in a whole new way and look at life entirely differently. I also found no grammatical errors, which makes me believe that this book was professionally edited. For the reasons stated, I would rate this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
If you are someone who enjoys poetry, then I would highly recommend reading this book. However, I highly encourage individuals that are not poetry fans to read this book too. It is filled with lessons that anyone can learn from. If you are someone looking to see life in a new way, I would suggest this book!
