Do you love to read books on sensitive and controversial topics? If so, this book is for you. Shitolian by O Persaud is a book consisting of short poems that cover a wide range of topics. Some topics include racism, global warming, gun control, domestic violence, and teenage pregnancy. The poems are divided into three major sections, which include shitolian, the creator, and punctuation.

I loved the poems in the first section since I could relate to most of what the author wrote. The first poem was titled black and white drinking fountains, and it created awareness of racism while shedding light on the fact that both black and white people are similar despite their color differences. Other poems in this section were about black history and stolen culture.

What I loved most about this book was the empowerment of women in the poem titled diamonds aren't forever. The author did a great job of uplifting my spirit through this poem. I also liked that the author used their poetic license well. The poems contained a rhyme. This, together with the incorporation of metaphors, symbolism, and humor, was also a great aspect of the book. It made the book entertaining to read and decipher poems to determine what the author was referring to.

However, I found some facets of the book that I disliked. First, I failed to grasp some points that the author attempted to put across because I'm not American. The reason is that the references to people or things were something only an American would understand. I also found it hard to know what the author was referring to metaphorically. I would recommend that one reads selected poems more than once since it requires maximum concentration. For all the reasons above, I give this book a rating of four out of four stars. The book appears to be professionally edited, as I only found two minor errors. I give this book a perfect rating because the errors did not take away from my enjoyment of the book.

I would recommend this book to readers who love poems that would challenge their intellect. It would also be a great read for those looking for an informative and eye-opening read. For readers looking to be entertained while also learning new vocabulary, this would be a suitable read. I would not recommend this book to anyone who is closed-minded and fixed on their opinions. In conclusion, I would read this book again in the future when I am more knowledgeable.

Though I am not a huge fan of poetry books, I think the book covers a wide range of themes that prick my interest. Great review

I don't really like poetry, but do appreciate that many social issues are covered in this book. It's great that the same things enveloped in novels can also be enjoyed by lovers of this genre.

Poems must make us conscious about our surroundings. They must demand action from us after they have unsettled us. I think this one might be it for people who are not choosing to be ignorant.

This sounds like a fantastic book of poetry. However, poetry is not my first choice of books to read. Therefore, I probably won't be getting it. I could tell that you enjoyed it, though. Thanks for an excellent review!

I'll take a rain check on this one since I'm not much of a fan when it comes to poetry, and the fact that this book will want my undivided attention is a no for me. The themes are very thought provoking and all which is good by the way. Thanks for a well detailed review.

I have this book on my list, and I look forward to reading it. Poetry can be hit or miss sometimes, but I love it when I connect to what the poet is communicating.
