Review of A Brighter Tomorrow
Poetry is a creative way to reveal the thoughts of the mind. A Brighter Tomorrow by Lori Schneider, MD is a coffee table book comprised of heartfelt poetry and original artworks inspired by the pandemic of 2020. The author is a practicing neurologist, and she discovered her love for poetry during the pandemic. A Brighter Tomorrow is her first book.
This book is an inspirational piece that proves that dark times would fade away, and it gives hope for the future. I like how the author sends messages to readers through poetry. In one of the poems, healthcare workers are given credit for their heroic acts. In another, readers are advised to wear a mask as a method of reducing the risks posed by the pandemic. The poems are all consistent with a regular rhyming scheme. I commend the author for maintaining this regular rhyme scheme and preserving the richness of the messages.
I particularly liked the themes of injustice, racism, and feminism seen in the poems. A lot of right activists have died to further a cause. Some of the poems urge us to continue to say their names proudly, as this would serve as a reminder that their deaths were not in vain. Biracial children are the representation of the different races of their parents, and they should not be segregated, as they are products of love and humanity. The poems also encourage women to break glass ceilings.
It's surprising how much talent we are unaware of until circumstances draw them out of us. This is just one beautiful thing that came out of a pandemic. People's lives changed, as they found new ways to arrive at their goals and discovered hidden talents. The artworks in this book brought the poems to life. They are very colorful, and they radiate creativity and positivity. For a first book, this is exceptionally done. The choice of words could not be better. There are no profanities. This book was perfectly edited, as I did not come across errors while reading it. There is nothing to dislike about this book. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It deserves a perfect rating; I found no negative aspect.
There are few religious lines, but I believe this book is suitable for readers of all religions. I recommend this book to lovers of poetry with rich and thought-provoking messages. However, seeing how great this piece was, I think any reader seeking inspiration would benefit from reading this book.
