Although I will admit up front to not be completely familiar with the poetry genre, Mois Benarroch's The Immigrant's Lament was an insightful and at times heartbreaking look at the inner thoughts and ideals of a young Jewish man. Benarroch's family moved from Morroco to Israel when he was 12 years old, and his poems reflect his struggle to adjust to his new life . The various poems cover topics from family life to culture to politics, and although they are framed by Benarroch's specific experiences, his experiences are still able to resonate with a widespread audience to evoke feelings of sympathy and even empathy. On a scale of 1 out of 4, I would rate this collection of poetry a 4 out of 4, as there were no obvious grammatical errors, and the poems themselves remained relatively consistent throughout the entire collection. Overall, I would recommend this work to anyone interested in poetry, in particular, poetry that reflects personal experiences. I would maybe steer clear if someone is just entering into the world of poetry, as his poems at times can be a little on the dense and intense side. However, if you feel up for the challenge, at the very least Benarroch's The Immigrant's Lament will hold your attention captive with the descriptive and fascinating experiences.
