This looks like another great Jennie Linnane book! With her cast of authentic characters and interwoven historical elements, this looks like another winner. I've read two of her novels so far and loved them! Thank you for you great review.

This sounds like an absolutely wonderful book. The characters are very relatable and the setting & time period are fascinating. I think I would really like the parents in this story. I love a good sense of humor! Great job on the review...you have made me want to add this to my list of books to read

Thanks for the review, but I really dislike historical fiction, coming-of-age tales, and stories about families; that gives this book three strikes, so I'm out.

Although I don't like coming-of-age stories, I admit that they are a part of life that sometimes deserves mentioning. The characters are attractive. I can always melt a father that is the practical joker and the soft hearted mother.

Great review! I read the free sample and found the author's writing style a bit too long winded in the descriptions for my preference, so I probably won't be reading it myself. I'm glad you loved it though!

A book about a family and set in Oyster Bay in Australia, just after the Second World War. Compared to today's times, life was much simpler and it is fascinating to hear about the family's enthusiasm when they acquired a refrigerator which replaced the ice box which they had been using. Part of a small community, this book sounds like a delightful story of a family and their relations with each other and the rest of the community. The review makes it sound like a warmly written book with carefully crafted characters. Reading about early TV which replaced the radio together with the old celebrities of that time sounds appealing to me. I enjoyed the well-rounded review of a book that sounds warmly written.

I love how this story is both a historical novel that takes place around World War II and a coming-of-age story. It sounds like the author did a great job at weaving amazing historical details into the story. Congrats on the book of the day! Great review.

From a sampling, this seems like an interesting historical fiction surrounding some children born and lived during WWII in Australia. It is worth a second look. Well done.
