Great review, very down to detail. I like the concept of the book, the cultural elements were also commendable.
Some books are to be tasted , others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested-- Francis Bacon

Great review. It sounds an intriguing and interesting book both from a historical and human perspective.

Great review! I tend to steer of historical fiction. They're usually complex to understand. The fact that you didn't understand the family tree is what I'm talking about. I loved your thorough review though.

There are so many elements to this book. It is especially hilarious. For example, the section describing the monk with the onion and mothball odors. I am really intrigued to read this book. Thank you for a wonderful review of this book.

I love a story with descriptive writing, but I have a hard time following along with there are multiple characters and familial connections. I will put this one on my "might-read" list. Thanks for your review!

I like the idea of a "might read" list - good idea for a new bookshelf! Thanks for your comment :)

I'm also not familiar with the Italian names and have no knowledge of Catholicism. But those are what makes me interested in reading this book as well as make it a challenge to read it.

The plot seems difficult to grasp, maybe because I'm not a fan of historical fiction and heavy reads. I like the fact that the book comprises different cultures and religions though.
Awesome review!
