The Fox by M.N.J Butler is a book I would not forget in a hurry. It tells us of how this warrior-royal has lived all these years harboring secret and secrets of himself, the throne and the kingdom. Leotychides walks us through his memoir in Sparta.

The book first published last century opens our eyes to a possibility we didn't know existed. I have always been a fan of urban fantasy but this historical fiction catches. I think It
was a good idea for it to be republished this year. It brings us to light on this hidden part.

What goes on in your mind filters on "what happens next?" Ho
w the book reveals relationships and personalities beyond warriors whom leotychides should be used to, from which we new-dwellers can understand the ways of these Spartans of the ancient Greek that still exists today, including women freedom and acceptance to some "accused" traditions of today.
How the writer tells this tale without a break dazzles readers.
I feel it is important even at the times to read such a book.

I love historical stories because it gives us a glimpse of the people in the past, their lives, culture and as you said the atmosphere. If I remember correctly Sparta is the setting of the movie "300". Although the movie was violent, in your review this sounds like the book is not only about fighting. Thanks for your review!

So, essentially history and fiction were blended very well in this book. I like the sound of this book and will probably take it up someday. Thanks for the well-written review!

I read this book and reviewed it. It was interesting in some points but dull in others. My love for historical fiction kept me reading.

I enjoy it when books teach me about subjects that I have a limited understanding of. The Spartans are very interesting to me, so I have added this book to my shelves.

The official review is a job well done. I just am not having that experience at all! I must be the worst cynic ever. It moves so slowly in the first book I thought perhaps a six-page reprisal would be sufficient to cover the same material. Perhaps if I had a love of ancient Greece and Sparta I might like it?

I feel your pain with the missing quotation marks but it really was a wonderful book to read.
