I like historical fiction and the premise of the story sounds interesting. However, I don't care for a plot that takes too long to take shape and this one sounds like that. Glad you were able to appreciate the book despite the issues you mentioned.

I hate when a book takes so long to get to the plot that it is actually a bit anti-climatic. I may skip this one for just that reason. Great review!

Another Da Vinci story! The man was multi-talented and a master of many trades and no doubt will inspire a lot more stories.

The title seems to imply that there are two gauntlets. I am sufficiently intrigued to get my hands on this story.

I was determined to get a copy of this until I got to your paragraph on the characters. It sounds as if the setting and style are gorgeous, but without consistency in the plot and character motivations I don't think I could get too invested. Thank you for your honesty!

Although this book has it shortfalls, what I know is thst I am envious of the writer's skill with descriptive language and poetic tone. Those two are currently my weaknesses.

This book does sound interesting but it's a shame about the characters. So much can improve a story when there are strong characters and a reason for their actions. Despite that, a historical fantasy in Bologna does sound like it could be very interesting. I might pick this book up. Thanks for the review!

I love it too, was my first inclination to read it. I need characters with depth however so I've decided to skip this one.
