What lengths would you go to protect and preserve something you hold dear? How far can you go to defend your beliefs? The Angel of Hoheneck by Ivan Fredrikson is a suspense thriller novel that clearly illustrates how radical a person can become.

Janek Dabrowski was a young boy with dreams and aspirations before his world shattered. Orphaned at an early age by the Nazis, life became difficult. In his desperation for revenge, he joined the Home Army and rose in rank, defeating every enemy and opposition. This whole experience changed him even towards his lover, Salomeja, who later bore him a son. Would this passion turn him into a thoughtless maniac who would stop at no length to get revenge? Would this become his greatest undoing? Read this book to find out.

I really enjoyed reading this book. At first, I sympathized with Janek, who was simply a victim of his circumstances, but later on, it became clear who the real victims were. The story was real, visceral, and profound. I literally cried when I read about Anja’s experiences in Hoheneck prison. No one, not even a criminal, deserves that level of torture. The book explored various vices like corruption, power thirst, and brutality, which provided me with new insights and perspectives on these issues. One thing that stood out to me in the book was Brigitte’s selflessness in giving up her man, identity, and even her life to rectify a wrong. Her heroism deserved an ovation. It was a really remarkable read.

The only thing I disliked was that there were a few instances of character mix-ups, which confused me a little, but it was not a major issue. I honestly feel it was a well-delivered story, with amazing structure and flow. I loved the location stamps at different points in the story, which made it easier to follow the book’s story. I also picked up a few German words, such as "Ja," "Danke," and "Gott," while reading the book. Although I found a few errors in the story, it did not impact my reading experience. I found the book really enjoyable and entertaining.

I rate this book five out of five stars for its very intriguing and suspenseful story. It was, however, an amazing read, and I highly recommend it to individuals looking for a captivating suspense and thriller novel to binge on. This is an amazing book that will keep you hooked till the last page.
