Boabdil is the son of the King of Granada. His father is very strict and sometimes beats Boabdil into unconsciousness just for breathing. Boabdil doesn’t understand why his father is so mean to him. Perhaps he just hates his son, or he wants him to be strong and brave to be ready to take over his throne when the time comes.

Ali al-Attar is a general in the army and one of the area's great swordsmen. Although he is a friend of the king, Attar takes Boabdil into his circle and tries to teach the young boy everything he knows about fighting and how to conduct yourself in a battle. The two are very close, and Boabdil learns a lot from Attar. Will Boabdil ever take over the kingdom of Granada and become who his father always wanted him to be? Pick up Snakes in Paradise by Tangea Tansley to find out.

Snakes in Paradise, which was written in three parts, was better than I expected. I became invested in Boabdil's character and wanted only good things to happen to him. The author’s work flowed with ease across the pages, and the book was quite easy to follow, even though it took place in the 1400s. There weren’t a lot of characters to keep track of, which I found very refreshing. The editing was flawless, and I found no errors. There were only a couple of profane words in the book, and the sexual content was kept to a minimum. The audience for this book could be just about anyone, down to teens, as there is only slight profanity, only a little sexual content, and not that much violence. I gladly give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It is a little gem of a book that you don’t expect, and you find yourself deeply involved in, and you won’t want to put down.
