Linnea Tanner is the author of Skull Vengeance. This is the fourth book of a five-book series about Catrin, her stepbrother Marrock, and her husband Marcellus. Catrin is a shape shifter and the Celtic Queen who is destined to rule the Cantiaci throne, which is rightfully hers. However, to reach her goal, she must first engage in a battle to defeat her stepbrother.

She is on a mission to gather as many people as possible to help her in the battle that she is preparing for. This even includes people that she doesn’t trust, but she is willing to let them help her. They want to take down Marrock as much as she is. Her husband wants to help her in this battle, but it is interfering with his family and political status in Rome, where he is currently living. Catrin is having a hard time finding allies to help her because there is an assassin who is trying to kill her. She has to watch where she goes and who may see her, as that person would also like to see her dead.

This book talked a lot about Catrin and the trials and tribulations that she is going through at this time in this series. The narrative explores significant life experiences, including the loss of a child, enslavement, and eventually becoming a renowned gladiator. Additionally, it highlights her unique ability to shape-shift, particularly with her raven companion, which underscores her mystical and transformative capabilities. This account provides insight into her resilience and extraordinary skills, emphasizing the complex interplay between personal tragedy and supernatural talent.

You will get some insight into why Marrock wants to battle many kingdoms and why he wants his stepsister dead. He can also summon thunder and lightning at will, since he is a sorcerer. He uses powers from skulls that he has hanging around his neck.

The book appeals to enthusiasts of romantic narratives, historical contexts, military conflicts, and fantasy elements, particularly those intrigued by characters with unique abilities. I did give the book a four out of five rating. As I was reading book four, I was lost on some of the information that was in the previous books. If not for that, I would have given it a five. I didn’t find anything that I disliked.
