I love the way you have just concluded your review. That social justice and societal change starts with regular and passionate people.

Though I am not a fan of romantic historical fiction stories, any book that brings change to society or inspires along that direction is welcome.

Diana Forbes in her book, Mistress Suffragette, has won several accolades. No wonder she earned a four star rating in your review.

Great review, this sounds really interesting. I like romance and I enjoy a really good historical fiction. Some in the genre miss the mark but this sounds great.

Stunning review! The sample gave me strong Jane Austen vibes, and your review sealed the deal for me. Characters you can become emotionally invested in? The intriguing idea of an “accidental” suffragist? I’m in!

Thank you for a decent review! But a trio of an adultery mess is definitely not the romantic and historical tale for me. I Pass! Best wishes to the author on the #BOTD 💑

Thank you for your review! This is very different than the normal approach to historical fiction; it sounds like it’s more of the scandoulous side of that era in some ways.

Thanks for your review. It was way better than the Amazon blurb. It is good to know that Penelope does not go off with Mr. Daggars but goes on to have adventures of her own.

I find history a boring subject by itself. But within a beautiful story, it becomes fascinating. I'm eager to find out how women fought for the right to vote. I also love the name Penelope and found the character extremely likable. Mr. Daggers seems like a lady-killer. Their liaison should be interesting.

What a charming sounding book! "Run away and become a suffragist" is a refreshing reaction to the classic predatory romance story.

I agree that societal justice and change start with "ordinary" people and I'm glad to see this novel reflects that idea. Thanks for the review.

Historical romance fiction does not captivate me much but I like Mistress Suffragette. Penelope falls in with Mr. Daggers reminding it's readers that sometimes love is complicated and not always as easy and straight forward as we are constantly meant to believe.

I've only heard of the 'financial panic" in the context of this book - I know it's less well-known than the Great Depression, but was more at the same time as the women's suffrage movement, as depicted in this book. Sounds like a great work of historical fiction based around some facts.

Learning to care for yourself is an idea I can get behind. I'm 25 and I struggle with this daily, so it'll be empowering to read this, I bet.

I have a read a small sample of "Mistress Suffragette" and agree that the poor Penelope was a very confused character for what I have read. The poor woman is torn between her desires to have a mind and desires of her own while also being pushed around by society's rules. The leads to her to being very vulnerable to a man who incites her desires in her. I'm very relieved to hear, through this review, that she doesn't live with the Daggers because it would only make the situation her family is in worse. I am most curious to see the woman she would become without her mother always hanging over her and having a cause that she really wants to fight for. I believe that Penelope would be a wonderful woman if she had a cause to follow and only then would she allow her true self to show. Only then do I believe that she could truly love someone and find a suitor worthy of her standards. Man, I need to read this book!
