Thank you for your review. I was amazed at the storyline. I have heard of this piece of history, but of course, never read as much as I would have liked to on the subject. I will be definitely be seeking this book for one of my next reads. Thanks again!

Even though Colombus is hailed as a hero, he killed a lot of people to get to the status where he now lies. I might pick up this novel, just to hear more about the history behind these strange and sad events.
Thanks for your comments. I certainly found this book added richness and depth to my very limited grasp of that period, particularly the expulsion of the Jews.

Thanks - there is heartbreak here, but the book itself affirms the value of friendship and loyalty.

Historical fiction is probably my 'go to' genre and I'm keen on this one based on your wonderful review.

In my house, we have a saying (we probably stole from somewhere): The victors get to write the history. Perhaps that's why I so enjoy this genre; it allows us to imagine the story from a different perspective, sometimes from an unsung hero or a more everyday person.

I don't think I was aware that Columbus took any of the native people on the return trip, but it makes sense. How interesting to read that approach to the story.

That's a very important saying and a really good point - thank you.

Yes, that surprised me, so I did check it out - most sources suggest he took more than six, some say 10-14.

Great review! I think I will skip this one, though, given that it deals with the Spanish Inquisition.

I'm not a huge fan of historical fiction, but you have made this one come alive in your review. I also tend to look up historical facts while reading books like these, it makes it all the more fascinating :)

Yes, that period of British history has always fascinated me and it's good to see the wider picture. Thanks for your kind comments.

Your review has captured all the adventure and magic that happened during the times of Columbus, that the author has successfully portrayed.
